Gringas - Bringing Mexican flavours to New Zealand
Sharing a passion for cooking (and eating!), Deena and Maggie decided to start up Gringas. Gringas is a Mexican-inspired food truck located in Mangawhai, Northland. They started with an idea, bought a food truck, spent months doing it up, planned a killer menu, and look at them now!
Deena and Maggie approached me to work on their logo. What a dream they were - The brief was this: “We want a sugar skull, with flowers”. It doesn’t get much better than that - Wide open to let my creativity flourish. My Mum is from Southern California and much of her style is influenced by Mexican decor and lifestyle so I knew immediately that I wanted Gringas to be bright and colourful. I was really excited to work on the logo so it came together quickly. I put together brand guidelines, signage for the truck, business cards, and a website. The truck was a fun canvas to work with. Credit to the team at Speedy Signs Whangarei who did a fantastic job on the printing and application.
Uploading images to the Gringas website caused me to salivate, a lot! So of course, Ikr (my partner) and I had to take a trip up for the Gringas opening day on July the 12th. Starting off with a Halo coffee (made by Deena) and beautiful blue skies, it was a great start to what was sure to be a good day! People started rolling in steadily from 11am and then within an hour, they were cranking! They were so busy I rolled up my sleeves and helped out for a couple of hours over the lunch rush! They weren't anticipating the numbers but they dealt with the hoards of taco-hungry punters well.
I highly recommend a visit to the Gringas food truck. Follow them on Facebook and/or Instagram or visit their website www.gringas.co.nz for more information on their location and operating hours.

It has been an absolute pleasure to work on the collateral for Deena and Maggie. Now I’ll let the visuals do the talking. Cheyney xx
